As a little girl, I always found myself drawing pictures and designing the school I wanted to own in future. I remember telling my mum as a child that I would give her money to save for me towards building the school. Children with their innocent big dreams, right? Fearing nothing and believing no one can stop their dreams!
Though I always dreamt of owning a school when I grow up, I never thought I'll become a teacher.
Remember those days in school when you are asked, “What would you like to be in future?”
I was always quick to say I want to be a pilot because I loved the idea of flying but that dream fizzled out after sometime.
As I grew older and wiser, what I wanted to be in future changed to being an Aeronautical Engineer but at some point I felt it was too much of a ‘Boyish’ profession.
Then Geology came along, after doing some research about it, I thought to myself, Naah!
I finally had it! I resolved, Food Science and Technology. At least I'll get to work in my childhood dream Company- Cadbury. Yipee! (Or so I thought)
Long story short, my choice changed from Physiotherapy to Physiology. Eventually, I graduated with double honours BS.c/Ed. degree.
In life, we often chase after things we think we ought to have or what we think we should be but what we actually need to make a difference is rooted deep within us. No matter how hard I tried to be something or someone else, my true identity found me.
Never dismiss your child's passion and dreams. Help them nurture it as it might be their lifetime career.
